Michelle & Barack Obama Make Seemingly Calculated Move To Squash Divorce Rumors

In perhaps another attempt at squashing divorce rumors, Barack and Michelle Obama posted a selfie together on social media — the first time we’ve seen them together in weeks. The former first couple went beyond a simple “I love you” on Valentine’s Day 2025 as each gave a shoutout to the other in commemoration of another year celebrating Cupid’s clever arrow. “Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away.

Happy Valentine’s Day, @MichelleObama!” Barack wrote in his post on X (formerly Twitter). Michelle wrote in her own X post: “If there’s one person I can always count on, it’s you, @BarackObama. You’re my rock. Always have been. Always will be. Happy Valentine’s Day, honey!”

Users on the platform were at a toss-up over whether the posts were genuine or a conscious plan to save face. “You show her love every day of the year and mean it. Happy Valentine’s Day Mr. President,” one user commented, while another asserted, “Your [sic] lying so badly lol.” One particular detail may be a sign that it’s all a façade to keep appearances up. The couple both posted at exactly 9:16 a.m. EST, making it difficult not to suspect that they were pre-scheduled posts instead of spontaneous displays of their affection for each other.

Barack and Michelle Obama have been seen together in a selfie to mark Valentine’s Day – the first time the couple is seen together in weeks amid divorce rumors.

‘Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away. Happy Valentine’s Day, Michelle Obama!’ the Democrat wrote on X on Friday.

The gushing post comes amid rumors the high-profile couple, who have been married for 32 years, are heading for a divorce.

It’s not clear when the image was taken, but Michelle shared the same selfie on her own X account.

She wrote: ‘If there’s one person I can always count on, it’s you, Barack Obama. You’re my rock. Always have been. Always will be. Happy Valentine’s Day, honey!’

The last time the pair was seen together was in early mid-December, over a month ago, when they stepped out for dinner in Los Angeles.

The former president also honored the ‘love of his life’ Michelle last month for her birthday, sharing a photo of the two sharing a private dinner.

‘Happy birthday to the love of my life, @MichelleObama,’ he wrote, alongside a snap that showed them holding hands while enjoying dinner.

‘You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life’s adventures with you. Love you.’

Michelle shared the post to her own account alongside a simple caption that read: ‘Love you, honey!’

Obama sat alone at Jimmy Carter’s state funeral and at Donald Trump ‘s second inauguration after Michelle broke with tradition and declined to attend, fanning rumors of trouble in paradise.

However, some dismissed the rumor and instead suggested Michelle was only making a political statement.

Last October, actress Jennifer Aniston publicly shut down ‘absolutely untrue’ claims by a US gossip magazine that she and Barack were in a relationship – making Michelle feel ‘betrayed.’

The rumor was compounded by the hosts of a popular pop culture podcast Who? Weekly, who claimed that the Obamas were ‘living separate lives’ while he and Jennifer were having a full-blown affair.

The Friends star told a US TV chat show host: ‘I’ve met him once. I know Michelle more than him.’

Despite the rumors, the couple have been careful to put on a united front.

At the beginning of February, Obama made it clear that he and his wife are a team in a statement regarding the horrific plane crash in Washington, D.C.

The former president, 63, used collective terms such as ‘our hearts break’ and ‘Michelle and I send our prayers’ in a subtle rebuttal to the wild speculation.

The couple, who first met in 1989 when they both worked at a law firm in Chicago, married in 1992.

They welcomed their first daughter, Malia, six years later in 1998, and their second daughter, Sasha, in 2001.

Over the years, the couple has spoken candidly about their martial struggles, with Michelle previously describing the ‘resentment’ she had over having to put her career on hold to be a mother while Barack’s continued to flourish.

And tensions only grew during their time in the White House – thanks to the immense ‘pressure’ that came with ‘needing to get everything right and be “on” at every moment,’ as well as Barack’s focus on his work rather than his family.
